Trio Guirapiá

Trio Guirapiá is a Brazilian chamber music ensemble specializing in the reed trio repertoire, utilizing the instrumentation of oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. The trio is formed by distinguished musician-educators: Professor Ariane Petri (Bassoon, University of Rio de Janeiro - UNI-Rio), Professor Ravi Shankar (Oboe, Federal University of Paraíba - UFPB), and Professor Iura de Rezende (Clarinet, Federal University of São João del-Rei - UFSJ). Its foundational mission is the systematic study, research, and dissemination of the repertoire for this canonical woodwind formation, thereby fostering its greater

appreciation and integration within Brazil's musical sphere.

 

 

About its members:

Ariane Petri

An associate professor of bassoon and chamber music at Federal University of the State

Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), Ariane Petri holds a doctorate from UFRJ and a master's in

Interpretive Practices from UNIRIO, with additional training in Germany. She performed

for many years with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, the Theatro Municipal do Rio de

Janeiro, and the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra, in addition to appearing as a soloist with various national orchestras. She is dedicated to teaching young musicians in projects such as Neojiba, the OPES Youth Academy, and the Villa-Lobos Festival. Her work also encompasses the research and dissemination of contemporary Brazilian repertoire, with several premieres to her credit.

Ravi Shankar Domingues

A professor of oboe and chamber music at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Music, Ravi Shankar holds a

doctorate and a master’s in musical performance from UFMG, with a specialization from

the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in Germany. He has built an international

career, performing with orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (Canada)

and the Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin (Germany). He has participated in

festivals like Junge Künstler Bayreuth and was a member of the Youth Orchestra of the

Americas under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel. He is a winner of national

competitions, including the Eleazar de Carvalho Young Soloists and the Experimental

Repertoire Orchestra Young Soloists competition.

Iura de Rezende

Praised by the German newspaper Badische Zeitung for a sound that "impresses with its

delicacy and lightness," clarinetist Iura de Rezende performs across the Americas and

Europe. He has been featured at festivals, theaters, universities, and renowned concert

halls such as the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Stadt Casino in Basel, and the Sala Cecília Meireles in Rio de Janeiro. He holds a doctorate from Indiana University (USA) as a Fulbright fellow, a dual master’s in performance and pedagogy from the Musik-Akademie Basel (Switzerland), and an undergraduate degree from UFMG. His notable awards include the FUNARTE "RespirArte" prize and the Arnold O. Beckman Award from the University of Illinois. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2022–2025) in the United States and is currently a professor at UFSJ in Brazil.
